Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST)

The Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment model (TIST), it is a trauma-informed parts work therapy that helps survivors work with the parts that carry the legacy of trauma – parts that are still scared, still hypervigilant, still ashamed, still mistrustful, still angry.

TIST was developed by Dr. Janina Fisher, an international expert on the treatment of trauma. It integrates principles and techniques from neuroscience, mindfulness, and parts-work to support healing in a safe and compassionate way. By re-framing extreme behaviours and inner fragmentation as protective responses to trauma, it combats shame and self-loathing. TIST is designed to work with clients who have experienced prolonged trauma, especially in early life.  Many are caught in cycles of suicidality, addiction, or self-harm. TIST helps clients recognize their symptoms as adaptive responses to trauma held by fragmented parts—and teaches them to relate to those parts with compassion, rather than fear or shame. TIST focuses less on traumatic memories of the parts and more on traumatic attachment and reparative experiences.

What TIST Helps With TIST is helpful for individuals who experience:

• Emotional overwhelm or intense triggers

• Anxiety, depression, or chronic stress

• Long-standing effects of trauma or neglect

•Complex PTSD

• Borderline personality disorders

• Suicidal ideation or chronic self-harm

• Traumatic attachment and relational difficulty

• Identity confusion, inner conflict, and shame

*TIST is also ideal for clients who have been stuck in therapy, unable to make progress or develop healthy therapeutic relationships.
